Jotform Pricing: The Real Cost Before You Upgrade (and the Limits That Force It)
You built your contact or booking form on Jotform's free plan, and now you're seeing warnings — or you're just wondering when the free ride ends. Before you put in your card details, check one thing first: which limit is actually causing the problem. You may not need the plan you're about to buy.
Here's what Jotform's own pricing page and help documentation say, checked in July 2026. Prices and limits change, so treat the numbers below as a snapshot and confirm on Jotform's pricing page before you pay.
What actually forces the upgrade
Jotform's free plan (called Starter) includes, as of July 2026:
| Limit | Starter (free) |
|---|---|
| Active forms | 5 |
| Submissions | 100 / month |
| Upload storage | 100 MB total |
| Form views | 10,000 / month |
For a small service business using Jotform for a contact or quote form, the first limit to cause trouble may not be the one you expect:
- Submissions (100/month) sounds tight, but it still allows more than three inquiries a day. Many service businesses never reach it with one contact form.
- Active forms (5) becomes an issue when you create separate forms for each service, location, or campaign.
- Storage (100 MB, total not monthly) can run out quickly if people upload photos, documents, or other attachments. This one doesn't reset.
- Form views (10,000/month) usually matters only when the form sits on a high-traffic page.
What happens when you go over
This is the part most pricing reviews skip. According to Jotform's help documentation (as of July 2026):
- When you reach the upload-space limit or any monthly limit, Jotform disables your forms on a scheduled date, announced by email beforehand.
- Visitors then see a "Form over quota" message instead of your form — which, for a lead-dependent site, means inquiries silently stop.
- Monthly limits (submissions, views) reset on the first day of your monthly usage cycle.
- Total limits (form count, storage) do not reset — you either delete old forms/uploads or upgrade.
The real risk isn't a surprise charge. It's finding out too late that your form stopped taking inquiries during a busy week.
Monthly vs annual: the real yearly difference
Paid plans, as listed in July 2026 (USD):
| Plan | Monthly billing | Annual billing | You save per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | $39/mo ($468/yr) | $408/yr (≈$34/mo) | $60 |
| Silver | $49/mo ($588/yr) | $468/yr (≈$39/mo) | $120 |
| Gold | $129/mo ($1,548/yr) | $1,188/yr (≈$99/mo) | $360 |
What each tier changes (headline limits): Bronze — 25 forms, 1,000 submissions/mo, 1 GB; Silver — 50 forms, 2,500 submissions/mo, 10 GB; Gold — 100 forms, 10,000 submissions/mo, 100 GB.
Two practical notes:
- The advertised "per month" price you see first is usually the annual-billing rate. If you pay month to month, expect the higher figure.
- Annual billing can save real money, but only if you're confident you'll still be using Jotform well into the year. If you're not sure the tool fits your workflow yet, one or two months at the monthly rate is cheap insurance compared to an annual commitment. (Refund terms are not summarized here — check Jotform's terms before choosing annual.)
Who can stay on the free plan
Be honest about your volume before paying. You can likely stay free if:
- You run one to three simple forms (contact, quote request, callback).
- You receive under ~100 inquiries a month — most solo and small service businesses do.
- Your forms don't collect file uploads, or only small ones you can purge.
You'll genuinely need a paid tier if:
- File uploads are part of your intake (photos, documents) — storage is the limit that doesn't reset.
- You need more than 5 live forms at once.
- A form is embedded somewhere with real traffic and views pile up.
Before you upgrade: a 5-point check
If a warning banner is what brought you here, don't panic-upgrade yet. First, find the limit.
- Find out which limit you're actually hitting. Jotform's Account Usage page shows it. Upgrading for the wrong limit wastes money.
- Purge before you pay. Old test forms, old submissions and uploads count against total limits. Ten minutes of cleanup keeps some accounts free for another year.
- Export your data first. Download existing submissions before changing anything — good practice before any plan or account change.
- Match the tier to the one number that's over. If only storage is the problem, the cheapest tier that fixes storage is enough. You can upgrade again later; going up is immediate.
- Decide monthly vs annual by confidence, not discount. Sure you'll use it all year → annual. Still testing → monthly, revisit in 60 days.
The bottom line
Jotform's free plan is genuinely usable for a small service business with modest inquiry volume and no file uploads — and when you do outgrow it, the trigger is more likely to be storage or form count than submissions. Check which limit you're hitting, clean up first, and pick the smallest tier that solves your actual number.
